Plymouth proved their innovation with the Valiant-based Barracuda in 1964. The first cars of this type were strong performers. The 1965 Barracuda contained balanced handling with a 235 bhp 273 cid lifter V-8 engine. In 1967, the company went all out with offering a 383 cid big-block to the options. In 1969, the “Cuda” had a 440 cid V-8 engine.
Keep in mind that junkyards are similar to swap meets in that most prices are negotiable. This is especially true when you’re buying parts that are not in good condition. The era that you are modeling will dictate that you use models from that specific time period, line and location (example post war era – 1950’s; Toronto-Hamilton-Buffalo line; the Niagara peninsula). Some people are stricter about era than others. If you are one of the stricter hobbyists, you should do your research into the correct cars for the era and line you are modeling and buy it accordingly.

An auto salvage yard could have just the pieces you’re looking for! Even small, locally owned salvage yard can have a few thousand cars’ worth of parts on hand. That’s over a million parts! And not only is it likely that they’ll have the parts you need, but some places will also install the parts for you on-site. Some salvage yards also encourage you to call ahead with the description of the part you need so that they can pull it from the yard and have it ready for you when you arrive. This saves you time AND money!
