However, the VR industry as a whole has seen slower growth than expected, and the economic effects of the pandemic have put pressure on many tech companies. As a result, Meta conducted layoffs in some departments and restructured to focus on high-growth areas.However, it appears that VR and augmented reality remain a key focus for Meta’s future. According to a statement in the Road to VR report, ‘We remain committed to building the future of augmented and virtual reality—including investing in our next generation of products like Project Cambria.’ Project Cambria is the codename for Meta’s high-end VR/AR headset expected after Quest 3.Reaffirming the Quest 3 release in 2023 is an important sign of the company’s continued commitment to VR and intention to continue pushing the technology forward. While Quest 2 has been successful, a Quest 3 would allow for more advanced specs, improved comfort and ergonomics, and potentially new features that could further increase the appeal and capability of VR.The VR market still has a lot of potential for growth, and Meta is in a strong position as the leader, but it will be important for the Quest 3 and future headsets to provide compelling experiences and use cases to draw more users and keep the industry progressing.
